Warped interview with www.warped2002.com

1. How many years have you been attending warped tour?
The first Warped show I can remember was - I think - 1995, just outside LA. I remember stage diving with my friend Kristen during Lagwagon's set, kick ass sets by Rocket From the Crypt and the Bosstones, who sweat like pigs but kept their suits on for the entire show, and it was either Wax or 22 Jacks - I'm not sure - either way Joe Sib was on fire! I've gone to many Warped shows since.

2. What has the band accomplished over the past 12 months?
In the past year, Sugarcult has recorded an album ("Start Static"), played the whole 2001 Warped Tour, toured the U.S. about 5 times, made 2 videos (our newest with our new drinkin' buddy: Tara Reid) and been on 2 compilations (Atticus and My Records). Basically, we've been on tour non-stop since June 21, 2001 - the first date of Warped last year and we're still going!! In what little time I've had off, I've recorded an album and an EP with my side band Bad Astronaut (with Joey Cape from Lagwagon).

3. How did you first find out that your band was asked to be on the tour?
I was on the phone with the Psychic Network and she told me in a deep southern accent that we were gonna get Warped again. We are so stoked to reunite with all the Warped family, friends and fans again!

4. What other bands are you personally looking forward to seeing the most this year?
Lots of bands that we have toured with over the past year are on Warped, so it will be cool to catch up with them, like Finch, Home Grown, The Used, Fairview, Reel Big Fish, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, Allister, Tsunami Bomb, New Found Glory, etc. We're close pals with Lagwagon, No Use, NOFX, MXPX and Midtown too, so it will be fun to hang out and to get into some mischief. I can't wait to check out Glassjaw and all the new bands on the side stages - that's where all the real action is.

5. What member of your band parties the hardest? Any evidence to support this?
I've been in a few bands with serious fuck ups and junkies, which is always a drag. So I'm glad that we keep it on a fun level. Our drummer, Ben, could probably take on Flogging Molly and drink them all under the table, black pint after black pint. Ocassionally I'll get wasted - like on the last tour when our friend Mike Leonard found me passed out on the sidewalk in San Fran, threw me in a cab to the hotel, where Ben found me the next day passed out in the hotel hallway on his way down to the lobby, where he was headed to the hotel dive bar for first call!

6. What city do you look most forward to playing in?
All the cities are cool for different reasons, but I really like playing towns like Bozeman, Montana where the kids hardly ever get to go to shows by touring bands. So they go extra crazy.

7. What kind of merch can we expect to see from you this summer?
We're working on a pen with a photo of our drummer, Ben, with his suit on. When you turn the pen upside down, the clothes disappear and he's naked. It's going to be called the "Ben Pen". We'll also have copies of our album this time. Last year it wasn't out yet.

8. If you were to choose a super hero power, what would it be?
I wish I could fly that way I wouldn't have to ride in our smelly van from show to show - throw in x-ray vision while you're at it - it could come in handy.

9. Anything you would like to say to all the kids reading this?
Go to the Warped Tour with an open mind. The new bands on the side stages are the bands that could get big next. See you at the shows. Get there early!!

10. Which warped dates/cities are you playing?
We're doing two weeks, from Seattle to Cincy. Then we'll just tag along and party.

11. What stage are you playing on?
The second stage. Although they mix it up. Last year, our first show was on the main stage.

Thanks
